March

In March, the children prepared to show their parents what they could do at our Celebration of Learning. It was a night where parents got to explore what their children could do and see how the Kindergarten concepts are taught in our class.
We also celebrated St. Patrick's Day as a class. The children were greeted with a huge mess caused by a leprechaun who while very messy was kind enough to leave us a treat for our trouble. We also made hats, rainbows and leprechaun traps. Thank you to all of our parent helpers and those who sent in food to help the day be successful.
Our class has been exploring 2D and 3D shapes and trying to learn the order of the days of the weeks and months.
In Language Arts, we continue to meet the children where they are at by working with them in groups. Some of our groups are reading while others are still working on letter names and sounds. Please see me if you are looking for ways to help your child at home with their current level of reading/ writing.
Our class projects this month have focused around kites. They have been the big theme that the children are exploring in the art area during their free time and so we have been looking at them as a class. After making various paper kites and extending our thinking to include using "string holders", the children were given more traditional supplies and asked to worked in groups to create a kite. There were no instructions just the materials. They were then asked to figure out how to make a kite that would fly. We had a lot of fun testing them in the hallway and then trying them in the gym. It was an awesome opportunity to teach the kids how to discuss ideas and come up with a group plan. It was also amazing to see how creative the children can be and how varied their soultions to a problem can be.
